Massing for the Grumeti

Rains ease and the herds concentrate in the west, building towards the Grumeti River crossings.

By May the rains are easing and the herds are consolidating in the Western Corridor, the long arm of the park that follows the Grumeti River towards Lake Victoria.

This is the least-visited leg of the migration and, for that reason, one of the most rewarding. The rut usually takes place around now — bulls fighting and calling, a constant low grunting across the plains that carries for kilometres.
