Walking safaris
By interest
On foot, with an armed ranger, in the parks that allow it.
Walking changes the scale of a safari. You stop looking for big animals and start noticing tracks, dung, bark, birds — the texture of the place. Not every park permits it: the southern parks and some private concessions do, the Serengeti and the Crater largely do not. Minimum age is usually 12 or 16.
