The Grumeti crossings
The first river crossings of the year, at the Grumeti — smaller than the Mara, and watched by far fewer people.
June brings the first of the river crossings. The Grumeti is narrower than the Mara and the crossings are generally less dramatic, but it holds some genuinely enormous crocodiles and there are almost no other vehicles.
Weather turns: dry, cool mornings, clear skies. This is where the classic dry season begins, and prices start climbing accordingly.
