Still south, and starting to move

The calves are running with the herds now and the columns begin drifting north-west as the plains dry.

Early March still looks a lot like February — herds on the plains, calves everywhere, predators busy. By the end of the month the grass is going and the animals start to string out into the long columns that will carry them north.

The rains build through the month. It is greener, quieter and cheaper than the dry season, and if you do not mind an afternoon storm it is very good value.
